[Fujiko is chilling out in what people might recognize as decorated pretty much like Lupin's apartment. She's singing softly to herself and tinkering with something strange, albeit mechanical.]

[She pauses and gives up on the song, focusing instead momentarily on snapping a spring into place, though this gets a quiet little "banzai!" of delight. Success; whatever it was.]

[Cute frown and a pout.] No wait, that line's terrible... [Sighs and runs a hand through her hair, then taps her little mechanics into device, which mostly just looks extremely dangerous and flashes knifes and other cutting utensils on swinging springs before she taps it it again with a pen to make it stop and settle down.]

Writing music is really hard. "But there ain't no cure --
For Luceti's Barrier Blues??" [She just shrugs.] Someone else should do this, it's too hard. Tell Elvis I quit. Anyone want to write a protest song? I am going to stick to making earrings.

[Earrings. Yes, apparently that death trap from hell she's playing with? It's an earring. Of course it is. Who wouldn't wear such death traps on their ears right next to their head and necks... it's so shiny. And then the other "earring" goes off and just starts smoking.] Uh-oh... guess I shouldn't have borrowed Lupin's gunpowder. [She's just gonna... try to blow that out.... yeah... be back shortly; experiencing technical difficulties and all that.]

[Spock glances at the hand and gives an internal sigh. Making sure his shields are in place he gently takes hold of her hand and like a true gentleman, bends at the waist and places a light kiss there.]

He lets go as soon as it is polite to do so and straightens once more, hands behind his back.]

May I inquire as to how you were using the gunpowder as an added weight? [Spock is a scientist, and curious... good luck explaining.]

[Blushes and blinks at that. SOMEHOW she didn't actually expect it to work, but she's all kinds of pleased that it did. Oh yes Mr. Spock, you're going to be fun.]

To keep it from swiveling around too much. Hang on. [Fans that pan lid to get rid of the excess smoke and picks up the large ball-like earring. It's clearly segmented, with rings on the outside that partially swivel and wobble, but nearly enough for a full axle rotation. Aesthetically it makes shimmering look. The earring's match, however has a different purpose, so don't touch unless you want some nasty cuts. They do externally match, however.]

See the inside ball? It's hollow so I needed to weigh it down with some powder or sand so that it wouldn't all swivel too much. How was I supposed to know Lupin kept gunpowder in the same drawer as talcum powder? [Sure. Blame it on Lupin. Why not? Have a cute attempt for an innocent pout. So innocent.]

[There it was, Spock had a feeling something was 'off' about Miss Fujiko....Spock had been in the apartment for quite some time now... he knew Lupin was meticulous in where he kept his 'prized' weapon and its ammo.]

A rather interesting device Miss Fujiko... who or what were you planning on using it on?

[Spock did not know if this person was a threat... however, if her and Lupin lived together... he could trust her.
There was amusement in his eyes....]

[Oh. She's a little more flushed now at getting caught. Stupid Lupin always befriending people like Zenigata. It's like he enjoys making his own life (and everyone else's) difficult or something. Oh wait, that's right, he does.]

Just in case of emergencies. [Pout. Pout. Pout.] Went off early anyway. Too much friction around the pin holding it together.

[Spock leans forward and inspects the frying device in the pan... ]

May I commend your attempt at such an effective device utilizing only what was readily available? However, I will make a suggestion...

Perhaps it would be more effective if you used nitrocellulose on the pin? That should effectively prevent the friction and prove useful in the detonation process.

[Spock assumes you know what he is talking about... nailpolish of course.]

[Fortunately... you're in luck. Fujiko may act like a ditz, but times like this, this is what trips her up. Because she does actually realize what that means.]

Whoa... Sneaky! That's perfect! Here watch this for a second, please? [And she bounds off to return seconds later carrying a vial of red nailpolish. ~~Her mun appreciates the translations though as not a chemist.~~] This should do, you think?

[Spock's eyebrows have vacated to his hairline as Fujiko runs enthusiastically to her room to procure her nail polish.....]

However...[And here Spock lightly grabs her forearm before she applies the nail polish...]

May I ask what your intentions are of such a device?

[Arches her own eyebrows at the arm grab and then furrows her brow and pouts again.]

For emergencies. Really.

[That is the truth. It doesn't say who, or when, or what kind of emergency, but then, it's an emergency, so who can know what kind until it happens?]

[Spock can tell that Miss Fujiko is hiding something... However....]

If you really must know; it's a smoke bomb. To help give a few seconds to get away. I know the droids aren't going to be much affected, but it might come in handy other times.

[Spock looks her in the eye for a moment.... then nods....]

[Spock lets go of her arm and promptly grabs the cooled off earring out of the pan. He starts to take it apart to work on re-salvaging it.]

I am curious Miss Fujiko... are you in the same 'line of work' as Mister Lupin?

[Her eyes widen nonetheless.]

Ah, no... don't touch it. It might go off again, so I've got it, okay?

And mmn... no, I'm not. What did Lupin even tell you he does?

[Spock smirks...]

I insist Miss Fujiko.

I believe his words were "I specialize in infiltration and extraction."

[She can't trust anyone else to make her traps.]

Oh, in that case, yes, actually.

It is curious Miss Fujiko how many beings, especially humans, have the ability to 'mask' themselves quite thoroughly... to hide their true personality and intentions under an impressive amount of 'layering'...
From what I have observed, those who have less than admirable intentions are often found to be reluctant, non-trusting and have a behaviour pattern that continuously changes.
[Spock slowly and deliberately slides the device towards Fujiko...]

It makes for a rather fascinating study, do you not agree?

[Spock could tell that this conversation had enormous potential...]

You really shouldn't call a girl's intentions less than honorable if you don't know the full extent of them, however. One might consider such a thing --

Not at all Miss Fujiko, I was merely making an observation based on speculation.

What is most fascinating are the reasons behind such behaviour.... [In his mind, Spock can see images of the specific people... His Captain for one, continuously hiding behind a mask of idiotic bravery... and Lupin...]

I should think. [Well, okay, she knows from experience. She confuses herself sometimes and that's nothing on dealing with Lupin and their relationship.]

[Spock takes a moment to consider...]

It is difficult to say, however...

Vulnerability seems to be a key factor, as it is seen by most a weakness. [Spock goes quiet for a moment... it would seem that Miss Fujiko and him have something in common after all.]

[Her eyes harden. Discussions like this were dangerous and she'd let the game play this far, but obviously she couldn't possibly leave Spock thinking she was vulnerable still, or worse yet; weak.]

I'm sure no one with brains would mistake me for being weak, hm? [Points to her once smoking earring.]

[Spock lifts and eyebrow and notices the change in atmosphere...

She has taken a rather defensive attitude.]

On the contrary...I did not imply you were weak, I merely stated that vulnerability is mistaken for weakness.

However you... like your partner, are...fascinating. [Spock is giving that odd half-smile again... however, he cannot help but feel uneasy... ]

Negative. I consider the two terms to be separate. To be weak is to be found 'lacking' in something... to be vulnerable is to be exposed. True strength is in how you handle being exposed.
A rather fascinating concept. [What Spock does not mention is that to be vulnerable is to be 'honest'... ]

And Spock notices the 'forced' laugh and he regrets making her feel uncomfortable... especially on their first meeting.]

As a person who lives their life by their own rules and frequents in thievery and espionage? Of course I find you fascinating.
