[Fujiko is chilling out in what people might recognize as decorated pretty much like Lupin's apartment. She's singing softly to herself and tinkering with something strange, albeit mechanical.]

[She pauses and gives up on the song, focusing instead momentarily on snapping a spring into place, though this gets a quiet little "banzai!" of delight. Success; whatever it was.]

[Cute frown and a pout.] No wait, that line's terrible... [Sighs and runs a hand through her hair, then taps her little mechanics into device, which mostly just looks extremely dangerous and flashes knifes and other cutting utensils on swinging springs before she taps it it again with a pen to make it stop and settle down.]

Writing music is really hard. "But there ain't no cure --
For Luceti's Barrier Blues??" [She just shrugs.] Someone else should do this, it's too hard. Tell Elvis I quit. Anyone want to write a protest song? I am going to stick to making earrings.

[Earrings. Yes, apparently that death trap from hell she's playing with? It's an earring. Of course it is. Who wouldn't wear such death traps on their ears right next to their head and necks... it's so shiny. And then the other "earring" goes off and just starts smoking.] Uh-oh... guess I shouldn't have borrowed Lupin's gunpowder. [She's just gonna... try to blow that out.... yeah... be back shortly; experiencing technical difficulties and all that.]

[Hides a small genuine blush.] Hah... well... I'm not formally trained or anything, and I'm really quite rusty. It's been a long time.

It couldn't hurt anyway. But I'd still rather stick with singing than song-writing.

That's all right. Maybe someone else can write songs for you to sing.

That would definitely be preferable. The trick is just finding someone who can write songs. And is willing.

Well, you could always ask on the journals if there's someone who wants to write songs for you to sing.

[And this is where her memory really works against her. Because she would like nothing more than to ask for some of the songs that Giles or Ginia used to sing, or that Link used to play on his guitar, but she can't remember any of their titles.

In the end, she finally asks:] Do you think they could play some of Frederic's music?

[She thinks about it for a long way trying to figure it out. Eventually it occurs to her:]

As in Frederic Chopin?

I can't play piano, but I have a guitar... let me think. I know Nocturne by heart! Will that do?

[Hearing that, a brilliant smile appears on Grune's face.]

Oh, yes. Thank you very much!

[Fujiko, you may be playing that piece fairly often from now on.... Hope you like it!]

[Fortunately it's one of the few that are easy enough for her to have memorized without having to fake it.]

[Enjoy Grune.]

[And enjoy she does, very much. She sits and listens, still and--for once--attentive. As Fujiko plays, one hand strays up to her necklace. It's one of the two she always wears, no matter what.

When she finishes, Grune says simply:] Thank you, Fujiko.

You're quite welcome, hun. I'm glad you liked it.

[She really is too. She's not used to having someone like her music so easily. Usually her talents don't lie in anything artistic like this, especially not after everything messed up in college and she had to go on the run.]

[It's nice though. Maybe she really will take over Cloud Nine with Lupin and go back to singing after all... maybe.]

[If she did go back to Cloud Nine, she would have the most appreciative audience in the world.]

Maybe someday, we could make music together.

[Ffff. Now to just convince her of that...]

[And she gives a softer grin.]

I'd really like that Grune.

[She smiles right back, without hesitating.]

I hope we can do it soon. I'd love to spend more time with you, Fujiko.

[She flushes a little at that. Is this what friendship is like? Part of her wants to run away from it. To hide. To make sure it can't get that close. She wants to act normal, but truthfully, not even Fujiko knows what "normal" is for this kind of thing.]

Singing... Maybe someone will get Cloud Nine up and running again.

[Fujiko will start trying if nothing else.]

Oh, I hope so. Then we could visit it together.

[And Grune will support her every step of the way.]

That would be fun. Or maybe you can come sing too. What do you think? A karaoke bar?

I'd love to sing with you! That's a good idea, Fujiko!

Okay! We'll have to go the Cloud Nine sometime, it has the perfect set up for it.
