[Truthfully, she's not sure what to say. There's a lot she doesn't want to hear, but covering her ears isn't going to do any good either, even if she still doesn't want to hear it.]
Perhaps. Part of the bits that stuck around are what made his relationship with Adele Leblanc...closer, let's just say. It's not for her--it's for the woman she was during that AU. Levarre and Leblanc have a lot of similarities, and it made interactions confusing.
...it didn't help that she used the same nickname on him that she did for me on their first meeting after.
[He sighs now, not even certain how to broach the real topic at hand.] No matter how stupid he acts, or how much he doesn't seem to care, Lupin really is yours. Entirely. The thing with him and Leblanc are just echoes, no more.
[Fujiko just freezes. For all she expected... it was the exact opposite of that. That it was time to let him go, stop teasing him, stop always leading him on in such a way that he always ran free and with everyone else. Hearing that he was still hers? No, she'd really expected the opposite. That she'd lost him. And it wasn't something she wanted to deal with. Hell, she didn't even want to deal with the feelings involved with that. Because you know, maybe it would be for the best, but she definitely didn't want to. Lupin was hers. She'd fought for him, beside him, done a lot for him, to keep him, and she felt she'd somehow earned him. And there wasn't much in Fujiko's life she could say she earned. Nothing good anyway.
Then again, Lupin was a good thing? Was he even? He was more like a fixture. Inevitable. Even an entire world away, even alone on her own for a year, she'd always known somewhere deep inside that Lupin would come find her. He always did, no matter how much she ran away from him.
So hearing all this from a stranger... but not a stranger.... she's a little dizzy at first, despite being frozen to the spot.
Is she relieved? Angry? Stupid Lupin... Why does he bother? It's always so complicated, but then... it wasn't the complications she minded. They were exciting, entertaining. And she knew full well Lupin thrived on them.
"You don't need to be too mad at him."
She had been... but a lot of it was a small fear. That he was already gone. That she should give up, and for all Fujiko's faults, giving up wasn't something she could do. Letting go of something she considered hers? Just as hard.
So there is a bit of relief there.
And then confusion about all of it. Why had she even been mad anyway? Was it really just over Adele? She doubted it. After all, it was sort of their pattern. And that was the frustrating part. Something she couldn't break either. Too much pride or something...
Fujiko lightly bites her bottom lip and hums the first few lines to something Madonna sung in Evita very quietly to herself before snapping out of it. Where were they supposed to go from here? Was it always going to be same old same old? Probably... and yet, she was kind of comfortable with that. She really didn't want to lose it.
She also didn't want to admit her fear about losing it either. Heck no. She'd beat Lupin senseless before admitting that.
Sadly, the fact that such things staying concealed probably led to that unbreakable pattern was lost on Fujiko.]
[Okay, that question is really just buying herself time to even process her own reaction, much less an outward face to show the world about it -- probably something like "haha I didn't need to hear that, I knew it all along" only more refined, since obviously Red knew she didn't know that and simply pretending she did wasn't enough to make it believable.
[It was a complicated thing to explain to someone on the outside, how having both sets of memories on hand made the differentiation between the two difficult. There parallels were there; had circumstances been different, who was to say whether Lupin would become more like Red or not?
They would never know, however, and there was only Fujiko's questioning gaze.]
