Hope is what makes people think they can succeed where it's impossible. It's the same as Hubris. It makes them think they're invincible until they crash and burn.

I think our definitions of hope are very different. Hubris is overweening arrogance. Not the same thing at all.

They're related. Those with hope have the arrogance to think wanting something to change the future will make it so.

I can't... hold onto hope. It only hurts. Thinking that there's even a small chance that will make a difference for something that never will. I have no hope Lupin will change or that I'll just stumble upon an oil well. Better to just move on and try something else.
